Mission Overview ------------ Robosub is a challenging annual robotics competition where collegiate students compete to develop autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs). This document outlines the elements and rules for participation. 1. Vehicle Description Requirements Participants must design, build, and test an AUV that meets specific size, weight, and functionality requirements. The vehicle's purpose is to locate and manipulate underwater objects. * Length: 39-57 inches (990mm - 1450mm) * Weight: Maximum 90 pounds (41kg) * Speed: Autonomous speed, approximately 3mph (4.8 km/h) * Sensors and Communication Systems + AUVs must have a pressure-resistant case that accommodates all necessary sensors and systems. + In-water tests must demonstrate the vehicle's ability to maintain course. 2. Underwater Test Sites Participation will take place at specific inshore, freshwater locations with access roads suitable for delivery vehicles. 3. Competition Dates and Schedule * Early November, three-day period * Preliminary underwater challenge followed by a main competition. 4. Communication Rules Teams are responsible for coordinating AUV actions and communicating information throughout the entire mission. The mission plan must include data from at least four sources: video footage, depth sensor measurements, water temperature, and GPS coordinates. Rules will be subject to updates by Naval Engineering Robotics Department
