Robo3D R2 40mm Extruder Fan Cooler
thingiverse
I've modified the hotend fan to improve cooling and control. For a complete understanding, please read on. The R2 always runs the extruder cooling fan even when not printing. This modification allows me to now control the 40mm fan so it only turns on if the nozzle reaches 50 degrees C or higher. PLEASE NOTE - You have two options: you can either use a 12-volt fan and plug it into the center fan power socket, or a 24-volt fan and plug it into the Extruder 2 socket. Only the 24-volt fan is controlled by the new firmware. You WILL need to reflash your firmware regardless of which option you choose, as I've moved the IR sensor and needed to update the offset slightly (3mm to the right, 7mm back). To flash your firmware, simply copy the HEX file onto a USB drive and select it from the R2 file menu. To revert to the original firmware, do the same thing. I've included both the original and my modified versions. Initial results are promising. I printed the main fan unit out of PLA but the fan shroud out of PETG, using 0.15mm layers. I ended up printing it with supports from the base only. If you need any help, just post a comment below. Have fun!
