This upgrade replaces the Robo3D R1's LM8UU linear bearings that guide the Y Axis of its movable bed with a more advanced design. Instead of using ball bearings, it employs self-aligning and self-lubricating sintered bronze bushings. Advantages include smoother operation without mess from reduced or no lubrication requirements. Additionally, solid bronze bearings ensure quieter operation, eliminating any possibility of gouging the rails if a ball bearing fails or is not properly maintained. This pillow block uses 7Z41MPSB08M bearings available in the US through Ultibots. More information and installation guides are posted on the Robo3D forums: Y Axis Bearing Alternative Print Settings Printer Brand Robo 3D Printer: R1 ABS + PLA Model Rafts: Doesn't Matter Supports: Doesn't Matter Resolution: .25 Infill: 30% - 40% Notes: Design is created to print laying flat, but this can cause the center hole of the bearing holder to not remain perfectly round. Alternatively, you can also print from either end without using support. When printing this, use ABS or another type of filament with a higher Tg (Glass Transition Temperature), because its top portion will be very close to the bottom heater on your 3D printer. Alternatively, adding an insulating layer to the bottom of your bed pad can also achieve satisfactory results. Designing This Project Significant changes differentiate these pillow blocks from the original Robo3D designs. It consists of a single piece and uses no additional fastening for artificial compression that might occur if you use two pieces. Additionally, recessed holes are created in order to provide extra space underneath the 3D printer bed. These self-aligning lubricating bearings reduce the need for maintenance. Long-term reliability and smoother operation with bronze bushings ensure quieter and better performance compared to ball-bearings. Due to careful bearing design and positioning, a larger effective support area can be provided while keeping the same size block size as its predecessor. Version History: v1: First release v2 - 4: Continuous internal testing Increased overall dimensions to better fit bearings used in this pillow block. Added slightly increased hole diameter for using M4 screws.
