Robo 3D R1 Double 40 mm fan setup - hexagon hot end
pinshape
I discovered that the other double mounts I tried didn't fit my machine because it appears that the hexagon hot end was raised 1-2 mm in my Robo 3D R1 model (purchased August 2015). The other designs were scraping the build platform. Specifically, I attempted these ones: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:821080 and http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1026691. I kept the same double mount and redesigned the shrouds to accommodate the extra mm needed to clear the build platform while still directing air to the nozzles correctly. The inner surfaces were given a smooth curved contour to ensure air flows smoothly to the nozzle end. It now sits 3 mm above the build platform. To secure each fan, I used two coarse threaded 1/8" Phillips screws on the double mount and two fine threaded 1/8" Allen screws on each shroud. The holes where the fans are screwed in should be threaded with a 1/8" tap, taking care not to heat up the plastic by threading too quickly - just do it in small increments of 1-2 mm, pulling out the tap while rolling it back. Continue this process until you've fully threaded the hole through to the other side. Print settings included: no supports, .3 resolution, and 25% infill.
