Every instinct screams treat this like a basic seesaw, but we soon discover that no matter how far out we slide the weight on one side, we can't balance the load on the other. Sliding the weight further increases reaction forces acting on the ends of the straight rods, yet fails to boost torque at the central pivot points. I run a drill through the holes and apply oil before inserting my fingers when assembling.
