Robb Jetty Abattoir Chimney Stack
sketchfab
Captured using DJI Mavic Pro. The lone chimney standing tall north of C.Y. O'Connor Reserve in North Coogee was once part of the historic Robb Jetty Abattoir. For nearly a century, the meatworks served Cockburn and international markets, employing locals and migrants alike through several generations of skilled slaughtermen. Built in the 1870s, Robb Jetty was originally too short to offload cattle safely, so animals were pushed off ships brought from the Kimberley and swam ashore with men in boats herding them onto the beach. Several private abattoirs used the jetty, and cattle grazed in vast paddocks stretching almost as far as Jandakot due to a lack of cold storage facilities to keep fresh meat.
