RO039-043005- Ballyphesean Crucifixion Plaque
sketchfab
Five dressed stones were set into the back wall of a garden in Chapel Lane, where a Roman Catholic church stood from 1756 to 1834 before the old Session House (RO9039-043015-) was converted into a church. Nevertheless, the crucifixion plaque is believed to have originated from St. Coman's Well (RO039-047-). The plaque (W 0.37-0.39m; H 0.33-0.36m) in relief depicts the crucifixion and two figures (Timoney 1980, 142-3). It is surrounded by fragments of medieval tracery. Following redevelopment of the area, it is now displayed on a wall in Chapel Lane. Orla-Peach Power recorded this plaque using an Artec Eva handheld laser scanner, funded by Roscommon County Council.
