RKX Guitar Pick (rhythm)
thingiverse
This is my own design of guitar pick, I use my pick very differently than most and decided today that I was going to try a simple pick print. That went well so I went from there to make that pick design a slightly different shape, from there I just went to try out what I thought would be better for my style of playing. Then I went in interesting directions based on how that felt. The main design is the doubleback, I usually like a thick pick (2 or more mm) but I found with this pick thinner is better, so I have it set at 1.25mm After printing I profiled it and the edge removing highspots and edge roughness from the print. I could bevel the edge, but I prefer to do it with sandpaper (as it only takes a minute) I leave some top roughness for grip and so I can flip the pick and get much more surface cut when I want, you can hear the difference. From there I designed a 3/4 cutaway version (tq cutback) this give a more traditional reverse pick design but with more thumb support. Then I did a version with a picking cut (tqpp version) These designs provide for a lit of interesting angles and sounds and are quite versatile, Give it a try and see how it goes, it takes a few minutes to get used to the design, but then it's as natural as anything. I printed this at 6 walls and 100% fill (8 minute print) .2 layer height, my settings here provide a ridge on one side, you will need to bring that down a little depending on how much bite you want. I found after using the doubleback design that my playing got a little cleaner which was a plus. I will be continuing to refine this and playing with bevels and valleys. I dont expect to go wild with those tho, This is comfortable to use as is. and valleys come out pretty lousy on fdm, you would be better off just sanding a nice valley after, it's likely less work ;) Update: February-03-2021 - Removed the cutback pick version, the pick hooked severely, it has promise, I am going to fiddle with it to tweak the hook out. - I have tested the cutback flat version and it works pretty well, you get several different attack edges to play with that change up the tone so it's a keeper. - after a few hours of testing the doubleback design has increased my speed and accuracy by at least 25%, I am super thrilled with the performance of this pick !! I spend a few minutes doing some really nice sanding and edge profiling on this, 180grit then smoothed out with 1000 grit.
