RK18 T00217 is a rare timber unearthed by conservators and archaeologists in the conservation facility during the Rooswijk archaeological excavation in 2017. In 2017 and 2018, an international team of maritime archaeologists excavated the shipwreck of the Rooswijk, a 300-year-old Dutch East India Company (VOC) vessel that sank on the treacherous Goodwin Sands off England's coast in January 1740. Following each excavation campaign, post-excavation work began focusing on ex-situ research and the analysis and conservation of artifacts, which will continue until project completion. The Rooswijk1740 project is funded by the Cultural Heritage Agency of the Netherlands (Ministry of Education, Science and Culture) in collaboration with Historic England and UK-contractor MSDS Marine.
