RK17 F00001 is a massive underwater fossil discovered during an archaeological dig at the Rooswijk in 2017. Archaeologists carefully unearthed the ancient relic from the conservation facility. In 2016, a thorough survey of the Dutch East Indiaman ship Rooswijk revealed that the site is on high alert for potential damage. To mitigate this risk, the Cultural Heritage Agency of the Netherlands launched the #Rooswijk1740 initiative through its Maritime Programme. In 2017 and 2018, a team of experts conducted further mapping and excavation at the site. The Dutch government owns ships from the Dutch East India company (VOC), while the United Kingdom is responsible for managing shipwrecks in British waters. As a result, both countries formed a successful partnership, with Historic England serving as the main UK partner on the #Rooswijk1740 project. MSDS Marine is contracted to oversee the #Rooswijk1740 initiative. Follow #Rooswijk1740 on social media and www.maritime-heritage.com.
