RK17 F00001 is a massive concretion unearthed during the archaeological excavation of the Rooswijk in 2017. The concretion was meticulously excavated by skilled conservators and archaeologists in the conservation facility. In 2017 and 2018, a team of international maritime archaeologists excavated the centuries-old shipwreck of the Rooswijk, a Dutch East India Company (VOC) vessel that met its fate on the treacherous Goodwin Sands in January 1740 off the English coast. Post-excavation work began immediately after each excavation campaign, focusing on ex-situ research, thorough conservation and analysis of the recovered artefacts, and will continue until the project's completion. The #Rooswijk1740 project is generously funded and expertly led by the Cultural Heritage Agency of the Netherlands (Ministry of Education, Science and Culture), in close collaboration with project partner Historic England and UK-contractor MSDS Marine.
