A rivet signifies a permanent mechanical fastener. Initially, it features a cylindrical shaft with a head on one side, while the opposite end is known as the tail. Upon installation, the rivet is inserted into a pre-existing hole and the tail is deformed or expanded to about 1.5 times its original diameter, thereby securing it in position. The original head is referred to as the factory head, whereas the deformed end is called the shop head or buck-tail.
