Torbjörn Lindholm, affectionately known as "Torby" by his friends, is one of the most renowned weaponsmiths and engineers in the world. He has a strong disdain for omnics, believing they lack empathy and instead operate solely on logic. Background Prior to the Omnic Crisis, Torbjörn gained notoriety for designing cutting-edge weapon systems utilized by countries globally. However, his conviction that technology must serve humanity's greater good put him at odds with his employers, who sought to control his creations using networked computer intelligence. At some point, he collaborated with the Ironclad Guild, where he worked in research and development. Torbjörn during the Omnic Crisis Torbjörn harbored a deep-seated mistrust of sentient robotic intelligence, which many of his peers dismissed as paranoia. However, his worst fears were realized when robot populations worldwide turned against their human creators during the Omnic Crisis. Due to his exceptional engineering skills, he was recruited to join the original Overwatch strike team, and his numerous inventions played a pivotal role in ending the conflict. Post-Omnic Crisis Following the crisis, Overwatch evolved into an international peacekeeping force, and Torbjörn remained an indispensable resource for its technological needs and signature weapons systems. At its peak, Overwatch possessed some of the most advanced armaments on the planet, which could be attributed to Torbjörn's work. This included the development of biotic technology, such as the biotic rifle, designed to heal Overwatch medics in the field. However, this device led to a disagreement with Angela Ziegler, who warned that it was setting Overwatch on a precarious path towards weaponizing biotic technology. During his Overwatch years, Torbjörn once donned a Viking costume for Halloween. In the aftermath of Overwatch's downfall, many of Torbjörn's creations were stolen or hidden away around the world. Feeling responsible for his inventions, Torbjörn was determined to prevent them from falling into the wrong hands and causing harm to innocent people. Torbjörn unleashes a short, close-range burst of molten metal from his Rivet Gun.
