Rising goddess (from Parthenon)
myminifactory
This is a stunning marble sculpture from the East pediment of the legendary Parthenon (East pediment K). The East pediment depicted the miraculous birth of the powerful goddess Athena, emerging dramatically from the forehead of her father Zeus. Many of the figures from the central scene have suffered damage or been entirely lost to the ages. Female figure K sits serenely on a rock, wrapped in a magnificent himation. She prepares to turn around or rise, expertly tucking her right foot under herself as she leverages upward. Standing higher than her companion, she wears sturdy sandals with thick soles, a elegant chiton with sleeves and an overfall, and a himation that covers her legs and back. Her chiton slips off the right shoulder, leaving it bare. The head and both arms are tragically missing.
