Ripper's London - The Shops Part 1 - Smiths and Co

Continuing with the Ripper's London series, these new buildings are designed as a Victorian London East End parade of shops. Five separate buildings come together in a flexible arrangement, allowing you to customize according to your preferences or use individually - except for part two, which serves as an extension building above an alleyway. All those shown with signs feature blank sign boards for you to select your own retailers. Some buildings have archways, permitting figures to pass through to the city's seedy back alleys and side streets. I've temporarily marked these files as work in progress due to a recent oversight: some buildings lack chimneys. This was only discovered when they were being painted! If any files seem missing, please let me know; five buildings generate a substantial number of files. The Smiths and Co shop does not represent a well-known UK newsagent chain. Instead, it belongs to Arthur Smith and his son Reg, who operate as local financial advisors - or money lenders. The undertaker's shop on the far left in the main photo also appears elsewhere. This range of 28mm buildings was originally designed to accompany the "In Her Majesty's Name" set of wargaming rules by Craig Cartmell and Charles Murton, published by Osprey Wargames. My inspiration came from watching "Ripper Street" on television. I've since become enamored with my own 'Rat the Ripper' theme! These buildings will suit any Victorian setting that needs a taste of the old East End. Many will remain relevant in train scenery and various steampunk scenarios. Please note: This series of models does not condone violence or other mayhem, and sightings of the Ripper should be reported to the Metropolitan Constabulary at Great Scotland Yard via telephone on Whitehall 1212.
