Ring light for Delta Optical stereo microscope

Needed parts include 18 LEDs, standard, 5mm in diameter, white, directional. Additionally, 18 SMD resistors (0805 will suffice) and 3 M3 setscrews (6-10mm in length) are required. This ring light was designed for the Delta Optical SZ-450B stereo microscope but can be used with any microscope featuring a 60mm outer diameter and a working distance of 5-15cm (9cm optimal, depending on LED requirements). The resistors should be connected according to your power supply specifications. In the case of the Delta Optical stereo microscope, a switch was installed on the original top LED light, utilizing the stock PSU with current limiting capabilities. To achieve more even power draw on all LEDs, 1.2 ohm resistors were used. During the main body print clean-up, the working distance can be adjusted. The LED holes typically need to be drilled, filed, or reamed to accommodate a slight inward or outward angle. It is essential to glue the LEDs into the body. Setscrew holes should be tapped to M3 or equivalent imperial size. Hex setscrews are recommended for this purpose. A cable output hole should be drilled in the cap wherever it is convenient. There is no need to glue the cap and body together, but you can if you prefer. If you possess a Delta microscope or a similar model, I strongly recommend installing a UV filter under the lens, preferably with multicoating. This will make clean-up much easier and more cost-effective than repairing the lens itself. Working with potentially damaging substances to optics necessitates this precaution. To achieve this, an M50x0.75 -> M46x0.75 thread adaptor was designed for mounting standard photographic filters. Please note that this setup also facilitates polarizer installation.
