Ring lamp/macro light for 50 cheap LEDs (no soldering required!)
thingiverse
Behold the first no-soldering ring led lamp for macro and portrait photography! Many of us don't have fancy soldering irons, but we do have 3D printers and some spare wires - maybe you can salvage them from your printer. Just print it out, even on a low-resolution head / high-layer-height setting. Strip some wire and insert it. Next, add those affordable LEDs from China, available in bulk for just $2 per hundred pieces. Cut the leads to size and bend them slightly. The housing will take care of any further bending necessary. Connect the power source using small screw terminals and guide your wires through special clips. You can use fewer than 50 LEDs if you prefer - I did! Plus, replacing a failing LED is easy as pie. When assembling, simply apply gentle pressure to each diode to prevent it from falling inside. Position them on your camera using M8 nuts and an M8 rod. This project is ridiculously simple for anyone without soldering skills. Even a glue gun from your little sister's old art supply kit should be sufficient to secure the screw terminal - any adhesive will do the trick, though. The base doesn't require any additional fastening. This innovative creation represents my long-held idea of creating something without the need for soldering. I designed it with young and beginner makers in mind.
