Ring flash (canon ex 580 family)
thingiverse
Hi! Made a ring flash for my Canon 40D with EX 580 clone, but it should fit most setups with similar sized cameras. Took me many hours to model, then many more hours to print, and I'm very happy with the results. If you want to adapt it to your model, all you have to do is fiddle with the "adaptor" part to make it fit on your flash. The other parts should be good to fit most cameras and lenses. Printed it at 0.2 line height, 0.4 shell thickness, and 15 infill, and once together, it's pretty solid. You might want to print the front part (I named it "top") at 0.8 shell thickness for extra peace of mind, but only that one; the rest is solid. Print the front and back with the flat parts on the bed. Print the adaptor part with the 45-degree part down, like in the STL file. All you have to do is print it, remove the built-in supports (in the adaptor part, the thin columns, in the other two parts, the row of columns on the little overhang). Then use aluminum/reflective tape everywhere inside, glue the three parts together and bingo, you have a ring flash worth $100 for about $5 of materials (takes about 50-65 meters of 1.75 filament). I'll upload a photo of the real deal as soon as possible. Also, as of publishing time, the STL for the adaptor part is not showing up as an image but can still be downloaded. If you like it, click like; same for "I made one." That's really important to me. Feel free to comment. Oh! I attached the 123D file with the clean models and the "supported" models...... if anyone wants to play with it, my only suggestions are to figure a better way to attach them together (they were supposed to clip together, but I made the "clips" too small). Also, you might want to reduce the size of the circular, light-throwing opening at the top (closer to the flashgun output) since it throws more light (the light not having to go as far before getting out and all. I'd suggest a 25% reduction on top, keep the bottom the same).
