I got inspired by that thing online http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:468590 to attach a smoke detector to my Rigidbot setup. Unfortunately, I couldn't locate the exact model of sensor I saw on Thingiverse and wanted to position it at a higher point so I designed this thing myself instead. In place of using screws, I chose to utilize two small zap straps that could clip directly into the factory base plate of the smoke detector to attach it securely to my new mounting solution. This way, when installed properly, the device slides right over an upper vertical support beam I put in for added structural integrity. You can modify my Rigidbot compatible smoke detector mount if you want using this linked sketchup file or its corresponding STL format counterpart from Thingiverse as inspiration, since it might suit your requirements more effectively than mine.
