Rigidbot Easy Print Cooling Fan Mount for Single Extruder
thingiverse
I want to design a super quick and easy fan mount that can print perfectly on the stock Ridigbot without needing any support material whatsoever. This fan mount is made specifically to work with a 40mm fan and requires only 15mm-18mm M3-0.5 screws for fastening, although alternative fasteners are more than welcome to join in. If you come across any issues or have suggestions for improvements, I'd really appreciate hearing about them because this model has gone through some changes since the last one I printed. I took inspiration from and based my creation on jwolee's incredibly impressive Rigidbot Fan Mount found at http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:407430, a truly outstanding design. Getting Started You will also need the following to complete this project: 4 x M3-0.5 machine screws with lengths between 15mm and 18mm or something similar like glue, along with some means of attaching the fan like zipties or more glue. Next up is attaching the fan to the top of the funnel using two M3 screws - you should be able to tap these screws into place on their own, or a tapping bit would do just fine. However, if not, there's plenty of room for an additional nut. Make sure your fan orientation is correct before applying anything permanently. As alternatives, glue or zipties could be used instead. After that comes attaching the funnel to the bracket using M3 screws when they're in their final position. You should aim to place the funnel on top of the bracket with its sloped edge facing down into the underside of the funnel. This joint should be super solid and completely flush, so make sure you get it just right; any issues here might result in fan-related print bed problems or even worse, print damage. Lastly, mount your new assembly onto your extruder's front panel by removing two M3 hex screws located on the left-hand side of the extruder baseplate. When lining up your bracket to take their place on top, attach them firmly. As you're finished, plug your fan connector into the unused Fan 1 slot found on the extruder head and do a tidy-up on those wires. All that's left now is using it in whatever program or setup of your choosing, which will also make the best out of the controls that came pre-loaded for such instances!
