RigidBot E3D Extruder mount with Rear 40mm Fan
thingiverse
I wanted a mount for my E3D that works seamlessly with Laser Weld Design's fully constrained block. Inspired by Walter's ingenious design, I incorporated his idea as the foundation of my creation but added some key features he didn't have. I was determined to maintain the full z-height and utilize my 40mm Noctua fan for optimal cooling. Additionally, I wanted a part fan with a duct that completely surrounds the hot end. Lastly, I aimed to incorporate a fully enclosed filament path since my old extruder kept getting clogged with cat hair. I would also like to have the filament spool on the table, rather than elevated above the machine. I designed this using Inventor and created all parts with Objet printing in mind. They should work flawlessly with FDM printing as well. I recommend tapping all of the holes M3 and securing everything together with suitable bolts. All holes are pre-tapped for convenience. The laser-cut components are crafted from 1/16" acrylic for the drive gear cover and 1/8" acrylic for the feed tube holder. The fan duct is printed separately as an assembly to make modifications easy. Although the current system works fine with Objet resin, which doesn't burn or melt, you may need to add polyacrylamide tape to insulate it if printing with plastic. A small, printed bridge secures the main cable in place, preventing it from coming loose. This feature is beneficial for all RigidBot owners. Performance is rock-solid, and I've encountered no issues so far. Currently, I'm working on a feed system for the filament. My assembly instructions are minimal, but if you have any questions, I'm here to help. While I believe this should work with FDM printing, I don't guarantee it in any way. Printer: Objet 30 Prime Notes: I printed this on an Objet 30 Prime with VeroClear at the high-quality setting (which is approximately 14um layers).
