I own a Robo3D for a while now, and what I love about it is the expansive 80mm carriage rail system, which gives me plenty of room to play with the extruder carriage. This design has been tailored to fit seamlessly within the standard Mendelmax 1.5 dimensions. It employs LM8UU bearings throughout its construction, and the extruder carriage boasts an even wider platform, allowing for effortless installation of various extruders in either a vertical or horizontal orientation. For instance, I can mount a Wade extruder straight up or on its side with complete ease. My extruder carriage features a Greg Wade extruder coupled with an E3D V6 hotend, and each side proudly hosts two fan mounts to keep the hotend running at optimal temperatures. Now, for those who want to replicate my build, I have listed the necessary components below. The first step is to install the steppermount, which requires: 1. One Nema 17 stepper motor 3 M3 x 16 bolts 3 M3 nuts 2 LM8UU bearings 1 M8 CouplerNut (choose from steel, brass, or nylon) Next up, you'll need to assemble the idlermount, requiring: 3 M3 x 16 bolts 3 M3 nuts 2 LM8UU bearings 1 M8 x 40 bolt 2 M8 x 25 washers 3 M8 standard washers 1 M8 nut 1 608ZZ bearing 1 M8 CouplerNut (select from steel, brass, or nylon) Now that we have the mounts taken care of, let's move on to building the extruder carriage itself. You'll need: 6 M3 x 16 bolts 6 M3 nuts 4 LM8UU bearings Last but not least, don't forget to order the smooth rod components: 2 8mm x 370mm rods Now that we have all our parts ready, let's discuss some essential printing tips to ensure optimal results. When it comes to layer height and infill percentage, I find that a range of 50-70% infill at 0.25 layer height produces the most consistent prints.
