Rigid Direct drive extruder mount for Ender 5 Pro
thingiverse
I initially used the original (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4310609) to mount my extruder but eventually ran into some low frequency ringing problems at higher speed. I reworked it guided by some stress analysis results. Deformation is about 1/4 what it was before so the ringing frequency is higher and easier to filter out. A lot of the reinforcement had to be done on the right side because the mounting points (at the 2 wheels) are offset to the left with respect to the motor. The right part of the mount has therefore a tendency to deform/rotate with the mass of the motor moving in the Y direction without good support. This model also has a screw hole and a hole for a nut at the top. This is where I attach my filament detector/filament tube guide. I had to move the X limit switch a bit to the right because it is now activated by the new mount instead of the wheel. I used a M3x8 screw, washer and T-nut for 20 series. Printed with 80% infill, PETG carbon fiber, 0.4mm nozzle, 0.1mm layer height, some support for the part in contact with the hotend backplate/gantry. I recommend printing the test hole included first to make sure the wheel metal spacers will fit and be snug in the holes. You can also test the support... I took me a few iterations to get it right using the "vertical hole shrinking compensation" in SuperSlicer.
