Using a sheet of affordable glass as a build plate allows for this flexibility. Glass is very inexpensive and extremely flat, making it an ideal choice. This modification should work seamlessly with printers such as the MonoPrice i3 Mini, Wanhao i3 Mini, PowerSpec Duplicator i3 Mini, etc. In addition to the fasteners and hardware that came with your printer, you'll also need four 3mm hex nuts and four 3mm hex screws. The screws should be approximately 12-16mm long depending on the size of your new glass build plate. Cut your glass a couple millimeters smaller than the original build plate for easier removal and reinstallation. Ensure that the glass is large enough to rest on the printer's leveling screws. A good rule of thumb is to cut the glass about 5mm smaller than the original build plate, but be aware that this may not be sufficient. To aid in bonding the glass, consider painting the underside with a suitable adhesive or coating. This will also enhance the appearance of your setup. I opted for a decorative touch by painting the underside of my glass. For effortless level adjustment, consider utilizing BexGold's excellent thumbwheels (available on Thingiverse). These innovative components make it easy to adjust the leveling screws without applying excessive force. ### Advantages * With zero force required to remove the glass, you'll need to re-level the aluminum bed much less often. * Glass is inexpensive, allowing you to have multiple sheets. Simply pop one in the freezer for easier print removal while printing on another sheet of glass. * The bonding agent can be easily washed off the glass.
