The fossilized remains of this horse femur were unearthed from glacial deposits at Monroe, a location within Orange County, New York. Initially, it was believed to have originated during the Ice Age, but subsequent analysis revealed that it dated back to a historic period when horses were buried in these same deposits. This discovery marks the first time an item has been catalogued under the New York State Museum's fossil record system. The museum number assigned to this specimen is VP1.
