This microscope is available with various brands, including one branded "Mustcam" that retails for $120 on Amazon at https://amzn.to/2U7bNx9. The standard enclosure appears consistent across all models, and the circuit board often features a label 'um016' along with the product description. To create this custom case, you'll need the PCB, entire optics assembly, and most of the self-tapping screws from the original microscope kit. The printed parts will replace the top housing, allowing for mounting the PCB (and connectors) at a right angle relative to the original design, significantly reducing the overall height of the microscope. When assembling the case, be cautious not to over-tighten any of the self-tapping screws. The case halves are primarily held together by a combination of a semi-circular groove on one end and three snaps on the other side. Some versions of the microscope utilize a flat cable, while others use a round one. If you have a microscope with a flat cable, you may need to apply double-sided foam tape to secure the cable down to the PCB at a safe distance from the brightness knob to ensure it can still turn freely. The two case halves can be assembled at any angle that's a multiple of 45 degrees by adjusting how they're aligned before installing screws in the side of the optics tube. I find it most convenient to assemble the top half and optics tube first, then connect and route cables before fully inserting the PCB, using a spudger if necessary to gently guide the PCB past the side snaps on the case.
