Right Angle Helical Gears

Right Angle Helical Gears

These gears are angled precisely at a 45-degree mark so they can fit together seamlessly at a perfect 90-degree angle on two perfectly perpendicular 3/8-inch shafts. One gear features a standard keyway, and the other I intentionally included a custom key into its STL design. Originally, I intended to test out some innovative ideas for a power transmission system on a printer model, but that plan has been put on hold until later. To build these gears, start by lightly sanding them down as shown in the pictures. Print them at about 0.3 density and with a 0.25 layer height for the best results. When you put the gears together, they should mesh perfectly well but may require some tweaking to align precisely at 90 degrees without any slight skewness. Fortunately, this project is highly adaptable, so someone might get better results than I did.
