Riggiola in cotto maiolicato Pignatelli
sketchfab
A Neapolitan tile, a term used to describe a small, maiolica-coated brick that decorates the flooring of the Chapel bears the coat of arms of the Pignatelli family. A noble Naples-based, Sicilian, Apulian, Molise and Calabrian family with a Spanish branch, often cited by authors as having Longobard origins. The Pignatelli family crest is on a gold background with three black pots arranged in two bands. To justify the coat of arms and surname, some researchers attribute the origin to an epic episode: Landolfo, general in the East for King Roger the Norman, escaped from the imperial palace in Constantinople after attacking it, carrying three silver pots (or vases) that had been charred by smoke and impaled on a spear.
