A technical drawing of a primer. It is an old drawing, and the primer chemical composition is rather old, and thus corrosive and toxic. The chemicals left behind in the barrel/gun/air, are attracting a lot of moisture and causing rust. So cleaning after firing is essential. A lot of old firearms have rusted barrels due to this problem. Mercury is a compound that makes reusing brass hazardous while it attacks the brass, and thus mercury should not be used as a primer compound. The chemicals left behind in the air are carcinogenic and toxic. Be sure on reading on the used chemicals before using them. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED! I have added some patents on other primer compositions. There are way more patents out there. Some patents claim that their composition is non toxic. Others claim to be mil-spec. It would be a good idea to use one of these compositions. If you wonder what the hell these compounds are; i have added some books about this topic, and i am sure these chemicals are named at least once in one of these books. I have added the ability to search the pdf files for words. Press "ctrl+f", to search for words in the books. Also there are more blueprints on primers, and there are more primer designs than this one. This primer will not fit any modern cartridge (while it is way to big), I will add those files on a later date. If you draw your own brass you can chose what size primer you want to fit in. And of course this primer would do, i am sure. A book is added called "Cartridge Manufacture" by "Douglas T. Hamilton", chapter XI (11) describes the entire production method.
