Rick's Portal Gun Remix
thingiverse
So I took the original Portal gun by 3DCentralVA and gave it a makeover, swapping out the handle for one that matches the iconic design from the series. This modification will print as a single piece upside down, making it a bit more challenging but also incredibly rewarding. To give it an extra touch of authenticity, I added a green energy plasma ball to the center. One thing I didn't tackle was incorporating the holes for the little energy arms that protrude from the gun. Instead, I simply drilled small holes and glued them in place, leaving some room for manual adjustment later on. You'll need to bend these arms slightly to get the bell-shaped ends to fit properly. Speaking of the bell, I also made some significant changes to its design. After some trial and error, I managed to print it as a single perimeter instead of dual, which opened up new possibilities with Simplify3D. With this software, you can now slice the bell into two separate FFF files, allowing for even tighter layers at the top. To give the clear bell a transparent finish, I applied XTC 3D, which worked like a charm. Most of these modifications were made using TinkerCad, where I was able to visualize and refine my designs before sending them off to print.
