Order a 9.5" 3D Print The Eye of the Sahara, also known as Guelb er Richat and the Richat Structure, is a notable circular landmark located near Ouadane in west-central Mauritania. This structure is an extensively weathered dome with a slightly elliptical shape and a diameter of 40 kilometers. The exposed sedimentary rock within this dome ranges from Proterozoic deposits at its center to Ordovician sandstone along its edges. The sedimentary rocks forming this structure slope outward at a shallow angle of 10-20 degrees. Differential erosion of the quartzite layers has created high-relief circular hills. At the center, a siliceous breccia covers an area with a diameter of at least 30 kilometers. Source: Wikipedia
