The iconic boar carving can be seen proudly displayed above the oriel window of the Great Chamber within the ancient walls of Barnard Castle. Originally situated indoors, it has now been exposed to the harsh elements following the castle's decline into ruins. Pounded by wind, drenched in rain, and battered by frost, the once-majestic boar carving bears visible signs of wear and tear. King Richard III, who seized control of Barnard Castle in 1475, personally adopted the boar as his royal emblem.
