Rice Dispenser
thingiverse
Turn an empty container into a rice dispenser. I used a (30 oz) plastic mayonnaise jar, which holds approximately 32 oz (2 lbs) of rice. Cut a precise hole in the plastic lid and secure it using hot-melt glue. Invert the jar, give it a gentle shake to fill the cup, then turn the cup over. This action will dispense 1/3 cup (2.25 oz, 65 grams, 80cc) of dry rice per revolution, which is my preferred portion size for each person. There's just enough clearance between the cup and the jar for smooth operation, but if necessary, use sandpaper to create a perfect fit. The design was inspired by my coffee dispensers because it works well and I prefer to keep things simple. I'm not satisfied with traditional rice cookers; instead, simply boil the rice for 12 minutes or so. Used approximately 65 grams of ABS plastic, which took about 150 minutes to print on my Afinia H479 printer using a 0.30mm Z height, medium speed, and a raft.
