Ribbon Folding Device

Ribbon Folding Device

Simple device for feeding ribbon through to crease it down the middle. I designed this for creasing Grosgrain ribbon which is used to cover the seams when sewing heavy canvas. This is designed for 1-inch wide ribbons. The opening thickness is 1mm, so there isn't enough clearance for thicker webbing. Only paper or thin fabric material will fit. I was unable to feed my Grosgrain through the device at first, and had to use masking tape to extend the ribbon by about 6 inches to thread it through. Ironing your crease is good, but not always necessary. Someone recommended pinning down your folded ribbon on an ironing board and running the tool along the ribbon, ironing as you go for a very solid crease. I think that is a better method than my initial plan to use the tool as a ribbon dispenser. I've used the tool for less than 10 minutes, so I have no idea how durable it is. Good luck to you. I used PLA+ and about 15% infill with 3 walls and 0.20mm layer height I printed it with the slot horizontal and had to clean up some very minor sags at the entrance. Obviously you need fans if you print this way. Printing vertical would maintain the channel better, but I was worried it might cause too much friction.
