Rhodes Incised
myminifactory
The motif on this Rhodes Incised, helmet-shaped jar is made up of three whirlpools formed by closely etched lines. Directly below the neck before the whirlpools intersect, there's an etched swastika within a circle. Around the neck are applique symbolic (non-functional) handles that add to the overall design. The interior shows signs of having had red paint applied at some point. The Hampson Museum Collection showcases one of the world's most incredible collections of American Indian artistic expression, as well as a major source of information on the lives and history of late pre-Columbian peoples who lived in the Mississippi River Valley. The collections at the museum are the result of extensive excavations at the Nodena Site and other sites in the region by Dr. James K. Hampson, along with work done by others, including the University of Alabama and the University of Arkansas. The Virtual Hampson Museum was completed by CAST in 2010. It's a groundbreaking museum that makes high-resolution data available for the first time, and it was featured in a UA Research Frontiers article in April 2010. In 2011, the museum started receiving significant scholarly recognition. Here are some articles that reference the Virtual Hampson Museum.
