Rhode Gear Bike Rack Additional Mounts
thingiverse
I've got an older Rhode Gear bike rack for my car, and I really wanted to squeeze in another kid's bike on the back. Luckily, I had plenty of space, but I'd run out of mounts to attach it. So, I decided to give it a makeover to make it more 3D print-friendly. Inside, I removed the posts where the rubber straps would go, and I created a thicker opening through the body for using straps or rope instead. The soft outer layer is made from flexible filament, which provides a very snug fit – on purpose! To get it just right, I used a thin screwdriver to pry the flexible part over the inner component, and now it fits perfectly. It's tight enough that no glue is needed, but loose enough to keep the flexible material soft. For the inner part, I printed with standard PLA at 25% infill, while the outer layer was made from flexible PLA at 15% infill, both using standard Cura supports.
