Revolver Cylinder Pen Holder
grabcad
Pen holder that looks like the cylinder for a revolver handgun.I designed this in Fusion360 to be CNC'd, but it could of course be 3D printed too. I've also included STP, STL, and SketchUp files.Model is 2.6 in. tall x 2.75 in. diameter. Pen holes (chamber holes) are 5/8 in (0.625). They are rather wide, and are meant for fat turned-wood pens. The Fusion toolpaths, if you choose to use them, are set up to start with a 2.75" diameter round stock. You will need 1.75" of tool stickout for the outside grooves, which intentionally have a draft-angle to make them machinable with normal tools with flute lengths of ~0.75 in. Since I did this on a router instead of a knee mill, it's set up to machine the chamber holes only to a shallow depth. They are meant to be finished on a drill press with a 5/8" (.625) drill bit. Please check your router to make sure it has enough Z travel. If you start with round stock like I did, the outside diameter of the part is not machined and has a "mill finish" look, which is not very pretty. This is shown in the pictures. I plan to get mine sandblasted for a matte finish, then anodize it.Finished part is just over 1 pound in 6061 aluminum.Tools used:Lakeshore Carbide 1/4" 3-flute TAS rougherhttp://www.lakeshorecarbide.com/tas14thealuminumshreddervariableflutecarbideroughingendmill.aspxLakeshore Carbide 1/4" 3-flute ZrN coated end millhttp://www.lakeshorecarbide.com/14variablefluteendmillforaluminumzrn.aspxLakeshore Carbide 3/8" 2-flute ball endmill, uncoatedYou could do this with a 1/4" ball, but you still need 1.75" of stickouthttp://www.lakeshorecarbide.com/38carbideballendmill2flute.aspxLakeshore Carbide 1/4" 90-degree chamfer toolhttp://www.lakeshorecarbide.com/1490degreeincludedanglechamfertool.aspx1/8" Spot drill (for marking the centers of the holes to aid the drill press ops)I just used a standard 1/8" drill bit.
