Revolver 3Dscan and Custom fitted Holster #Designbycapture
myminifactory
Revolver 3D scan for Design By Capture. This model was captured using photogrammetry software, Autodesk Remake. A few key facts about this item: It spent several weeks outside to achieve its distinctive rust and white patina. This model was created with 186 photos taken by a Nikon D3200 camera in our Tradesbox photostudio. Using embedded mesh editing tools within Remake, we corrected the mesh to separate the trigger's bottom from the guard and smooth out the grip. Remake automatically refined the texture very nicely. We also sliced the model inside Remake to create two halves that would align perfectly. What can we do with it? Two exciting possibilities: (A) using it as a Virtual Reality asset for entertainment, and (B) designing an amazing 3D printed holster. We will integrate this model into one of our virtual reality projects, perhaps a carnival-style shooter game. Using the 3D model, we will employ boolean scripts in Meshmixer and Fusion 360 to design a form-fitted 3D printed holster. Further updates on the holster: This is an older style revolver without a transfer bar, which increases the risk of accidental firing. A safety holster should trap the hammer to prevent such incidents. Secondarily, we plan to design the holster as a child-safe gun lock with a form-fitting hammer and trigger enclosure that will prevent unwanted access to the firearm.
