Reveted well at RAF Brampton
sketchfab
A well, dating back to mid-to-late medieval times, measuring 3.80m x 4.50m and 1.58m deep, was uncovered during recent excavation at RAF Brampton in Huntingdonshire. The well's location, situated in an area peripheral to medieval settlement, provided a unique glimpse into the daily lives of residents. Ten stakes and ten planks made up the remaining structure, showcasing a diverse range of stake styles, from rectangular ones fashioned from tree trunks to complete and semi-complete branches. The planks displayed signs of reuse, possibly originating from cart backs or flooring. In contrast, the southernmost planks and staked had been removed before the deliberate capping of the well sometime during the late medieval or early post-medieval periods.
