Reused chevron fragment AI7
sketchfab
A fragment of Caen stone chevron moulding is being reused in the north elevation of Rochester Cathedral's north nave aisle wall. It possibly originated from the c.1080 north nave aisle window recesses that were recased in Caen stone after a fire ravaged the cathedral in 1137. The original Romanesque windows were completely erased when the present Gothic windows were installed. In addition, forty foot (12.2m) of the north nave aisle wall was rebuilt again in 1670 (Palmer 1897, p. 27).
