A more economical solution is the reusable filter, which utilizes regular activated carbon commonly found in pet stores to purify aquarium water. For a one-time investment of 320 grams of activated carbon costing 6 euros, you can recharge the filter up to 30 times. According to the manufacturer's specifications, just 10 grams of this carbon can effectively purify 3 liters of water. In addition to activated carbon, you can also use stainless steel mesh screens or various types of woven or non-woven fabrics as filtering materials, depending on what is readily available to you. The filter itself can accommodate different material thicknesses, offering flexibility in its application. Update: As of June 15, 2016, the Drinkwell fountain has been upgraded with a new version (v2) that boasts increased activated carbon content and an improved rubber band attachment for secure fitment.
