"RetroHand" Vintage style gameboy thing what I made
thingiverse
This is a pi zero based gameboyish thing that I designed. I was trying to get the look of an Atari 2600 - think there are the coolest looking vintage consoles. It's made with easily available cheap parts. It's a little WIP still, but perfectly usable. Just need a couple of changes to negate the need for hot glue on a couple of parts. If there's enough interest in this, I'll put together a parts list for anyone who fancies making it. Edit Here's a list of parts and whatnot. Buttons I used are these ones https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/123417122610. I wouldn't use them again though - they're really a bit too big and "clicky" for this kind of thing. The brain is provided by a raspberry pi zero w. It's good enough to run most pre 90's consoles perfectly. Audio is a bit tricky. You'll need to build or find a pwm out circuit for the pi because it doesn't come with it out of the box. Audio amp is a cheap ebay one - I couldn't find the exact one but there are loads with the same footprint so it shouldn't matter. Speaker is one I had - I think it's from a gameboy. Screen is one of the ebay BW reverse camera screens. Cheap and easy to mod for 5v. Batteries are 2x 750mh lipo's with an adafruit powerboost 500. Should have gone with the 1000 really but it's what I had. Most of the info you could need for getting one running can be found on the sudomod forums. Hope that helps
