Retrievable Model Rocket for 18mm engines
thingiverse
UPDATE: I added extra optional designs to fit various tastes and to provide an alternative to the very basic design that was initially available. The additional designs include a main body with aerodynamic fins, a steeper nosecone that can be tailored to individual preference, and an additional middle extension piece that can be easily glued in. So I decided to build a small model rocket myself using a PVC tube and wondered if it could print and fly well too. However, I haven't started building it yet since the engines I ordered have not arrived. I will update this after I've had a chance to test it out. EDIT: I finally got around to trying it out, and to my surprise, it flew flawlessly and reached much higher altitudes than my main rocket - despite being made from heavier materials. The only problem is that it's currently stuck in a very high tree, and I haven't been able to retrieve it yet to inspect for any warping or internal damage. 2nd EDIT: I was finally able to recover the model rocket, and fortunately, there's no visible damage at all! Feel free to leave some comments. Thanks in advance for checking out my model! DISCLAIMER: If you print this rocket with the extension piece included, its weight will be close to the limit of a D9 motor - the largest commercially available engine in Germany. I know my design is significantly oversized compared to a typical model rocket and weighs nearly double what a professional rocket should weigh. Keep this in mind when using my design, as it won't fly as well as a cardboard tube design simply because it's 3D printed. First flight: https://youtu.be/GsbAnUBg_DI
