Retaining Nut for 1/4x20 bolt with Dragon Pattern
thingiverse
Somehow when I spent a year replacing the motor in my fan, I misplaced the tiny retaining nut that kept the grill on, so I designed and printed one. To avoid being plain, I merged a Dragon design onto it. Light fixtures I also added a nut pattern that might fit those nipples from a light fixture; however, I haven't had time to try it out yet. The library I'm using for threads isn't specifically designed for the 1/8" I.P. thread. Update I made the thread extend a bit more into the retaining part so it could screw on securely. Instructions The "raw" files have simple threaded cylinders that can be screwed onto anything. Modify them to a favorite design or a flat disc, depending on your preference. Printing Print the files however you prefer. I printed the Dragon face down without supports on makerbot's "standard". Although some of the back was a bit saggy, it still worked fine. Usage The threads are pretty tight when printed, so you might need to screw them on and off with a tool or something a few times before they can be attached to your application. I have done this in the past, even tapping some of them for extra grip. Notes I designed it for a 1/4" x 20 bolt; however, check out the .scad files if you need to change the thread size. The second file is for a 1/8" I.P., similar to light fixture nipples; yet, I haven't tested this one as of now due to my present situation.
