Respirator Prototype

Respirator Prototype

In light of the shortage of respirators, I've designed a prototype mask concept that's not intended as a substitute for proper medical equipment but rather a way to make better use of filter materials where proper gear is scarce. On both sides of the mask, five-eighths-inch diameter cutouts conceal the attachment points for filter material via adhesive or a common snap bushing/grommet. A quarter-inch hole on the back of each side allows a string, shoelace, or elastic material to pass through and be cinched tight for a secure fit. Since everyone's face is unique, the contour of this design may not provide an optimal fit. To improve comfort and ingress protection on harder plastics, adding foam adhesive tape to the interior edge can make all the difference. However, this design would likely function best when produced with a more flexible material.
