IMPORTANT: Read this carefully before downloading: THIS ITEM IS DESIGNED FOR THEORETICAL PURPOSES ONLY. IF YOU CHOOSE TO INSTALL THIS IN A DEVICE AND USE IT FOR PRACTICAL APPLICATION, DO SO AT YOUR OWN RISK!!! RESPIRATORS AND FILTERS ARE PROTECTIVE SAFETY EQUIPMENT. TAMPERING WITH THEIR DESIGN AND FUNCTIONS COULD RESULT IN DAMAGE TO THE DEVICE, DEATH, OR SERIOUS INJURY. All printers and materials produce varying results. Consider this: A print that's too tight could damage or crack your device, rendering it useless. A print that's too loose could leave the integrity of your device compromised, rendering it useless. If in doubt, don't. Yes, I created an item that installed perfectly and was leak-tight. This meant I was happy to use it in a practical application. However, it was my risk to take. Your results may differ significantly, and as such, I urge you to exercise extreme caution if you're considering modifying a respirator. THE ITEM: This adapter allows the fitment of a 40mm threaded filter cartridge onto a popular brand of respirator, which I'll leave you to identify if you own or not. It allows for the utilization of the gasket and non-return valve that comes with the standard filters for said respirator. Don't discard them yet! Peel off the gasket carefully without stretching it too much, then remove the valve rubber and black peg using tweezers or needle-nose pliers, taking care not to damage it. PRINT SETTINGS: Go with standard 0.2mm layers on a 0.4 nozzle. As this is a functional part, I suggest printing with 5 walls and 4 tops and bottoms. Use a 20% gyroid infill. A concentric support structure is essential; enable it everywhere, even on the print. Make it 1% density with an x/y distance of no more than 0.6 from the print (this is crucial to ensure good support of the securing tabs). Check after slicing to ensure the tabs are supported. A 5mm brim is advisable. Print on the hotter side if possible, to ensure excellent layer adhesion. Keep your bed temperature at 50°C. The supports might be tricky to remove, especially from around the thread and underneath the valve bracket. However, carefully digging them out with tweezers should result in no need for post-print clean-up. You may also wish to print the "Plug" (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4223364) for the disused hole or a second adapter to run two filters. Please note that when fitting, one of the 4 tabs is slightly smaller than the other three. This is the tab to line up with the arrow on the mask/respirator. The only additional gasket you may need is for the 40mm thread side. I suggest selecting a suitable plumbing rubber seal of around 2-3mm thick to fit around the base of the filter's male thread (hole size approximately 39mm). I've worked hard on this model to ensure good thread accuracy and tab fitment, but I'm no professional in designing, 3D printing, or respirator and filter science. So, I advise you to re-read my opening statement again. Thanks and happy printing.
