Resized 60% jet engine HPC spool to fix clearence problems
thingiverse
This part fits the 60% jet engine version found at https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3432558. This HPC spool is designed for users who experience clearance issues with the HPC, its rotors, and stators. I modified the 60% HPC spool file by reducing the middle part's width to 57%, allowing for more clearance from the stators and enabling the use of smaller rotors printed at 58%. The length and bearing hole remain untouched, so you can reuse the same 10x22x6mm (61900) bearing as in the original 60% version. However, it may require a bit of hammering to fit snugly. To utilize this part, print the HPC rotors at 58% size, which will snap into place tightly without needing glue. Stage 4 and stage 5 rotors printed at 58% are compact and might struggle to pass over the lower spool part with screw holes. Nevertheless, a gentle diagonal push can resolve this issue. By using this resized spool, you'll address problems associated with the spool touching stators and rotors contacting the HPC case. If your rotors touch stators, consider reprinting the stators with reduced Z-height or sanding them slightly. Alternatively, try sanding the rotors for extra clearance. When planning to spin the engine at high speeds, ensure that no rotating parts come into contact with stationary components, as this can cause catastrophic failure and melting.
