Resident Evil Lighted T Virus
thingiverse
This is a modified version of Ecogeeco's T Virus found at thingiverse.com. Huge thanks to Ecogeeco for creating this amazing model! The base has been opened up for easy access to the inside components, including switches, batteries, and resistors. I've also added holes in the center for led legs to shine right through the spiral. A removable lid was created that can either snap into place or be glued on solid, depending on preference. A future upgrade may include a threaded lid design for extra security. Give these a shot and you'll see why they look so incredible! They're pretty straightforward projects that anyone can accomplish with a bit of basic electronics knowledge. First things first: Print the bases in any color you want – silver is ideal, but feel free to get creative by painting it before hooking everything up. The central spiral would really pop if done in green or blue hues, and I'm experimenting with glow-in-the-dark filament as well. The electronics aspect is a breeze; feel free to get fancy or keep it simple, just like the example shown here with added switch and resistor for max brightness and battery life. You can too! Find the longer lead of the LED (your positive wire) and bend it 90 degrees inside the base so it sticks out along its edge. Add a piece of electrical tape over the exposed lead to secure it in place. Next up, take your negative wire (not hard to remember, is it?) and bend it flat too. Grab a flat battery like CR2032, insert it into the base with positive side facing outward, then fold the positive wire over it so it makes contact. And voila! You now have light! The outer casing was made using clear plastic packaging wrap from any random source; simply stretch it around a pipe slightly larger than the vial and heat it up until it becomes more compact. Take off the wrapping when cooled down, place the wrapped material on the outside of the virus spiral base and squeeze it gently to set. When that's all said and done, trim the excess plastic where they overlap. That's it! The natural tightness from the heating process ensures a snug fit – just apply glue if needed for extra hold
