The idea behind RESD was to have internal storage specifically designed for smartphone and tablet motherboards. One potential user of RESD proposed an innovative concept - a Custom Motherboard with an original form factor. While retaining the same physical size as a standard Micro SD (mSD) card, it maintains separate contact areas on both cards allowing each device's respective technology to work harmoniously. When an mSD or RESD card is inserted into the appropriate slot of a smartphone or tablet motherboard respectively, special detectors detect this occurrence and enable smooth communication. Once an RESD card has been inserted, it signals back confirmation through a series of electrical contacts present within both the phone as well as the specific contact pads of the embedded RESD slot. Upon confirming this sequence signal, only those corresponding electronic pins activate. Thus the system recognizes when an mSD is placed within an ordinary cardholder so to not establish dialogue before completion - until such time both physical edges move smoothly into one.
