In the 1840s, archaeologists unearthed several sculptural fragments of an unidentified type of stone that had been used to block around the tomb of Bishop John de Sheppey. A particular fragment stands out for its depiction of a painted and gilded canopy above a statuette of Moses holding a tablet bearing the ten commandments, with the name 'MOY-SES' boldly painted on it. Experts believe these fragments likely originated from a 14th-century chancel in the surrounding area.
